Sam began his karate journey over a decade ago at a local Goju-Ryu club in Gloucester. He competed at national level for two years before parting ways with the style.
He began training in Shito-Ryu under Sensei Brian Jarvis, and under his expert supervision Sam was awarded his black belt in 2016 by Shihan Kunio Murayama, a direct student and ‘uchi-dashi’ (live in disciple) of the great master Shihan Manzo Iwata.
Sam has competed at national level many times, as well as at the WSKF World Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, as a member of Team GB, where he came 5th in the Male Individual Kata.
As a second-year Philosophy student, Sam worked as Vice President for CUKC before taking on the role of President in his third year. He has continued to compete on behalf of CUKC, and is looking to continue his karate journey in future.
