Last Saturday 8 members of CUKC squad traveled to Chesterfield to compete in the KUGB National Student Championships. The entire team performed really well, showing that all of their hard training has paid off.
Special congratulations have to go to one of our new squad members, Roman Sztyler, who stunned the audience with an absolutely outstanding performance of Unsu in the male dan grade kata final, leading him to take first place in the category by a huge margin.
The kata team (Tom Johnson, Ian MacLeod and Paul Smith) won the gold with impressive performances of Empi and Kanku Sho.
After taking silver last year at this competition, the Men's A Kumite Team (Tom Johnson, Ian MacLeod and Paul Smith) was determined to take the title. They fought well in the early rounds to gain a place in the final against Makenki, and took the final down to the line with everything resting on the last fight. The team emerged victorious in a fitting end to the day.
As well as being a key member of both kata and kumite teams, Ian Macleod took joint third in male dan grade kumite and 4th in male Dan grade kata. It is clearly an outstanding achievement to win medals in all categories of the competition he could enter, made even more impressive by his strong attitude that enabled him to compete through all four finals despite being injured in the kumite eliminations.
Also adding to both his team Gold medals was Paul Smith who got through to the male dan grade kumite finals, then taking joint third place.
Congratulations to all our competitors, especially Roman and Gemma who fought for CUKC for the first time.
