The 2024 Intraclub Competition brought new and familiar faces together at the University Sports Centre for a final competitive event before Christmas.
Kata
Emma won Women’s Kyu Kata with Heian Godan, closely followed by Shloka performing Bassai Dai. In Men’s Kyu Kata, Yusuf won with the Shito-ryu version of Bassai Dai, ahead of Rolland and Indi.
Rose decisively won Women’s Dan Kata with Anan and Chatanyara Kushanku, scoring 21.7 for each - the highest marks of the day. Fatemeh and Amelie completed the podium. In Men’s Dan Kata, Nirmay won with Gojushiho Sho and Kanku Sho, ahead of Dani and Alexander performing Gankaku.
Kumite
Angela won the Women’s Brown and Black Belt Kumite final after a closely matched bout with Liz. Yusuf won Men’s Kyu Kumite, landing a strong roundhouse kick and another wazari against Rolland in the final.
In Men’s Dan Kumite, Lukas and Nirmay advanced through the opening bouts before Callum reached the final. Callum defeated Nirmay with a spectacular head kick followed by the final wazari.
Alvaro Angeriz Award
Shloka received the Alvaro Angeriz Award for her strong kata, her surprise entry into a higher kumite category and her consistently friendly commitment to club training.
Thank you to everyone who organised, refereed, scored and competed. The event gave members valuable experience and an excellent stepping stone towards larger competitions.
